Suspended LSU running back Trey Holly will stand trial July 7th for his alleged role in a shooting that injured two people in his hometown of Farmerville last February.
Holly is facing one felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.
Holly has been suspended from the LSU football program since the incident, in accordance with athletic department policies.
Holly’s attorney, Mike Small, says he and his client are happy that a trial date is established.
“He’s very eager to proceed to trial and eager to establish his innocence, which he has clearly and always maintained,” says Small.
Holly has not been able to participate in team-related activities since his arrest, but he is still going to school at LSU.
Small says if his client is found not guilty, he’s expected to be reinstated.
“He’s working out. He’s staying healthy,” Small says. “He’s very anxious to continue with not only his academic pursuits, but his athletic pursuits as well.”
Small says he and his client are grateful that they can go to trial relatively quickly.
“In a case this serious, particularly one that has generated this much publicity, trial oftentimes takes place much later than it will take place in this case,” says Small.
While at Union Parish High School, Holly set a record for all of Louisiana high school football (all divisions) with 10,352 career rushing yards.
