The price of live and boiled crawfish in Louisiana has dropped for the fourth consecutive week leading up to Mardi Gras weekend. According to The Crawfish App Co-founder Laney King, live crawfish now average $3.75 per pound.
“But a quick check on The Crawfish App you can easily find crawfish in most metro areas for under $3.00 a pound now.”
King noted that boiled crawfish cost around $6.19 per pound.
“Boiled crawfish comes with a little more expenses. So those are going to average $55.99, $6.15. $6.20 a pound. Something around there is what you can expect if you want to buy the crawfish already boiled from your favorite crawfish app.”
The decline is due to an abundant supply, driven by mild temperatures in South Louisiana. King anticipates further price drops as peak crawfish season arrives in March and April.
“I do forecast that they will continue to go down until we get that really sweet spot. That sweet spot is when live crawfish can easily be found for under $3 per pound.”
