A new report by state auditors shows that the benefits of putting on a fortified roof greatly outweigh the costs of one.
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor says fortified roofs have been shown to lower property insurance premiums by a median of 22 percent, saving homeowners $1,250 a year.
“That is the path of true reform for the state, as far as property becoming more and more affordable,” says Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple.
Temple says the benefits of having a fortified roof go far beyond just insurance discounts.
“You get peace of mind knowing that your roof is going to stay on and your contents are going to stay dry,” says Temple.
Temple says a fortified roof also boosts home values, as evidenced by one of our neighbors to the east.
“Alabama has shown that a home with a fortified roof sells for on average seven percent more than a home without a fortified roof,” Temple says.
