The dream run for McNeese is over — and in all likelihood, so is the Will Wade era in Lake Charles.
The Cowboys could not keep up with Purdue, losing to the Boilermakers in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, 76-62.
On Thursday, McNeese won its first-ever Tournament game, beating fifth-seeded Clemson.
But they couldn’t keep the momentum going against fourth-seeded Purdue.
Junior guard Sincere Parker led the Cowboys with 17 points in 20 minutes off the bench.
In both of McNeese’s Tournament games, their top scorer was a non-starter; on Thursday, Brandon Murray was the top scorer with 21 points in the win over Clemson.
After the game, reports surfaced that Wade has accepted the job at North Carolina State.
Earlier in the week, Wade acknowledged that he has had conversations with NC State but would not elaborate.
After Saturday’s loss, Wade did not comment on the reports.
“I’ll worry about that tomorrow,” Wade said. “Today, I want to put a bow on everything with McNeese if we can. Then, it’ll be up to whatever else happens.”
