Construction is underway in Lincoln Parish on a 9-mile stretch of I-20. Erin Buchanan with DOTD says crews will be replacing the asphalt.
“We’ll be providing some repairs to the base of the roadway at certain locations, as well as removing all of the old asphalt and replacing, of course, with new,” Buchanan said.
Buchanan says the work stretches between the Bienville Parish line to the Highway 149 overpass near Grambling. Buchanan says since this is a heavily traveled section, they will be implementing a queue detection system to give motorists real-time traffic conditions.
“It’s a type of system that monitors the queuing of vehicles, the congestion, in real-time and flashes messages to motorists about that condition. They can make some decisions about whether to exit or find another route,” Buchanan explained.
Buchanan says if you’re traveling in that area, be prepared for delays for the foreseeable future.
“It’s probably going to take about a year or so. We anticipate wrapping up next summer, hopefully early summer,” Buchanan said.
The asphalt on the ramps at highways 507 and 563 will also need to be replaced as part of the nearly $18 million project.
