“What’s unique about is that one its free and secondly you can do your own self-prepared tax return on this particular software going to MyFreeTaxes.com website.”
Heckard says since 2020, the program has saved nearly 30-thousand people over 3-million-dollars in tax prep fees while ensuring they claim eligible deductions and credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.
“The tax codes that are covered through there are just simple W2 forms or a schedule C for self-employment. We have 1099 interest forms and dividends, so we cover those. So, just a number of those forms that you would get.”
The program, in partnership with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), guarantees secure and accurate tax filing. Free services cover W-2 income, self-employment, education expenses, and more. Heckard says taxpayers can file online at MyFreeTaxes.com or schedule an appointment with a VITA volunteer via unitedwayswla.org/vita or by dialing 211.
‘The last day to file is April 15th for Federal and for State is May 15th, of course, that’s for Louisiana. Get out there and get your taxes done.”
