The Pelican Institute for Public Policy released its latest Pelican Pulse Poll ahead of the upcoming 2025 Louisiana Legislative session. The survey of over 800 Louisiana voters shows lawmakers a clear picture of what voters are prioritizing. Pelican Institute CEO Daniel Erspamer says the poll shows voters believe government spending is out of control.
“2/3rds of Louisiana voters says that government spending is too much and they support specific reforms to limit its growth.”
Erspamer says a majority of voters favor giving families school choice.
“A majority of votes support giving families public school options beyond their assigned zip code, and almost 2/3rds of voters want the Louisiana Gator Scholarship program fully funded.”
Governor Landry has proposed 93-million dollars for the LA Gator scholarship program, the state’s new school voucher program. That would provide about 11,000 families with state funds for education expenses.
Erspamer says rising insurance costs is a major concern, with 54-percent strongly agreeing that lawsuit abuse is a factor
“Voters are saying, “Yes, this is a very important issue.” They want the legislature to tackle it, and they believe lawsuit abuse is a critical component to make that fix.”
The legislative session begins Monday and it will last until June 12.
