In the 2025 Louisiana legislative session, Covington Senator Patrick McMath is championing the Make America Healthy Again agenda. McMath says given the state’s persistent health challenges, there needs to be more of an effort to prioritize health.
“If we changed our priorities. If we incentivised health over sickness this country could turn around in two years. We’d be the most productive, most dominating force in the world. We were at one time, we can do it again.”
McMath has a comprehensive bill that attempts to ban ultra-processed foods in schools and requires restaurants to inform customers of unhealthy seed oils in the foods they serve…
“To just notify their patrons if they are cooking in seed oils which are insanely unhealthy for you. They were used as engine lubricant when they were first developed.”
McMath on what will define ultra-processed foods…
“There’s no definition of what is or isn’t an ultra processed food, but we’re pulling from other countries that have banned certain types of ingredients that have been found to be harmful.”
