Treasure John Fleming has some questions for Orleans Parish schools for questionable expenditures thanks to a new law requiring schools to submit expenses to the K-12 school transparency website. Fleming says two-thousand dollars was given to Act Blue.
“Which is a Democratic political organization. Government money ordinarily can’t be contributed to something like that.”
Examination of the data revealed questionable expenditures, such as $248,151 on staff retreats, $168,752 on restaurants, and $5,000 for fireworks. Fleming says all these expense need to be accounted for and examined.
“And that we make sure were spending that money efficiently so it will go a lot further than it does now.
Fleming praised the initiative, emphasizing that transparency promotes accountability, greater efficiency, better educational outcomes, and improved teacher pay by shedding light on how taxpayer money is being used.
“It’s often said that daylight is the best disinfectant when it comes to inefficiency and certainly waste, fraud, and abuse.”
A request for comment from the Orleans Parish School Board was never answered.
