The small West Baton Rouge Parish town of Addis is ready to roll out the welcome mat for its newest hometown hero, John Foster.
“John Foster has definitely put Addis on the map, all over the United States and probably all over the world,” says Addis Mayor David Toups, “and we are extremely happy with him.”
The 18-year-old LSU freshman is paying a visit to his hometown tonight after making it to the season finale of American Idol.
The town will throw a parade for Foster along 1st St. at 5:00 Wed. evening.
“I know people are going to start showing up in town very early for that,” says Mayor Toups. “We encourage people to come in to find a place to park, and you’re probably going to have to walk to the parade route.”
Then at 7:30, Foster will take the stage at Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park for a special ceremony and mini-concert.
“John Foster will be arriving right at 7:30,” says Toups. “He’ll be whisked to the stage. We’ll do some presentations and things, and then John will perform 5-6 songs.”
Then immediately afterwards, it’s back to Los Angeles for Foster to prepare for Sunday’s season finale, in which he will go up against Jamal Roberts, 27, of Meridian, Miss.; and Breanna Nix, 25, of Denton, Tx.
Toups says something like this really brings the community together.
“All of our communities, not just for this, but everything — how we all come together as one,” says Toups. “We’ve got a strong community here on the west side. And we will bring John Foster home, and he will be very proud of what we have planned for him.”
Toups could not confirm or deny that those plans include erecting road signs proclaiming Addis to be the home of John Foster.
