DOTD marks one year of progress on the 360-million-dollar Jimmie Davis Bridge replacement project, a major transportation investment in northwest Louisiana. DOTD spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the new 4-lane bridge, being built north of the existing 2-lane structure, will improve crossings significantly.
“So, basically doubling the capacity of those who are wishing to cross the Red River in south Shreveport and south Bossier City and those areas.”
Construction of the bridge’s foundations is advancing, aided by two temporary trestle bridges. Buchanan says significant work is also underway to realign and widen LA 511, including a raised median to enhance traffic flow.
“It will be a much improved change in terms of congestions and wait times and things like that.”
Buchanan says the project is set to open in 2027, weather permitting, and will serve over 30,000 vehicles daily.
“If all the pieces fall into place and mother nature cooperates overall, we hope to be driving over a new bridge about two years from now.”
