Leaders for a Better Louisiana is urging the state Legislature to keep funding a 30-million-dollar high-dosage tutoring program. The Louisiana House did not include the funding in their budget proposal, but this week the Revenue Estimating Conference recognized an additional 39-million-dollars in available funds for next fiscal year’s budget.
“We hope that now some other dollars have been identified, we can kind of refund this program and make sure we keep it going for our kids,” said Barry Erwin, Leaders for a Better Louisiana Chief Policy Officer Barry Erwin.
Erwin questioned changing this effective strategy midstream, highlighting its importance for student success.
“One of the key things Louisiana did better than anybody else was implement this high-dosage tutoring, and we want to see those results continue.”
Lawmakers now face decisions on allocating extra revenue, with tutoring restoration being a top priority for advocates like Erwin to maintain academic progress.
“I think the message is, look we’re making progress and we want to see that progress continue. We know this is a key factor, and for $30 million it’s really a good investment.”
