State Tourism officials say you can stay cool and enjoy the outdoors this summer by visiting one of Louisiana’s 21 state parks. Director of State Parks, Brandon Burris, says there are pools, water play grounds and beach swimming available to visitors at no additional charge. Burris says water playgrounds are located at several state parks.
“Visit it one of our State Parks and get to experience all the great hikes and recreational activities and if you get a little hot, if you get a little over heated in the summertime, jump into one of these great splash pads we have,” Burris said.
Burris says the water playgrounds are located at Bogue Chitto near Franklinton, Chicot in Ville Platte, Fontainebleau in Mandeville, Jimmie Davis near Chatham, Lake Bruin in St. Joseph, Palmetto Island near Abbeville, Poverty Point Reservoir in Delhi, St. Bernard in Braithwaite and Tickfaw in Springfield from 8 AM to 8 PM.
“Imagine a playground with elaborate water features, sprinkling water or spraying water, it’s just a great place to take the family to enjoy themselves,” Burris said.
Burris says pools are also available at Chemin-A-Haut near Bastrop, Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville and North Toledo Bend near Zwolle. He says several of their state parks also have beaches with swim areas.
“You don’t have to take that long trip to the Gulf Coast somewhere, you can go to Mandeville (Fontainebleau), or north Louisiana to Lake Clairbone State Park or Jimmie Davis State Park in Chatham and enjoy the beach,” Burris said.
Burris says if you are still looking to plan a summer getaway, consider a State Park. He says they have great sleeping accommodations.
“Cabins that can hold eight to ten people, two bedroom with one bath, whatever you are looking for, we have all types of availability all across the state for you to get out and have your over night recreation,” Burris said.
