Legendary musician Paul McCartney is returning to New Orleans as his “Got Back Tour” will make a stop at the Smoothie King Center on October 29th. NOLA.com entertainment reporter Keith Spera says McCartney is 83 years old, but he is still an elite performer, and he put in a Hard Day’s Night at his last New Orleans performance in 2019.
“He spent two hours and 45 minutes on stage. They did 38 songs, which is incredible for any performer,” Spera said.
Spera says McCartney’s voice is still great and the musicians around him are a Band on the Run.
“Those guys don’t treat the Beatles songs like museum pieces, like these sacred objects that you can’t have any fun with.
They, like, play them hard. They play them like a rock and a roll band that’s playing these songs for the first time,” Spera explained.
Spera says Sir Paul has a long history with New Orleans.
“Going back to when the Beatles played, you know, what was then City Park Stadium in 1964. Yeah, he played the Superdome in the early 90s. He’s played the Smoothie King Center numerous times. He was here in 1975, recording the Venus and Mars album at Alan Toussaint’s studio,” Spera said.
The presale for tickets will begin next Tuesday and tickets for the general public will be available a week from Friday.
