The funeral service for Reverend Jimmy Swaggart will be held at Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge this weekend. Swaggart family spokesperson Megan Kelly said the public viewing and wake will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and a celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. Hours of the wake had to be extended due to the overwhelming support.
“We’ve got hotels near around that have been booked up, so we’re really expecting a very big attendance,” said Kelly
Swaggart was the most popular televangelist throughout the 80s and 90s. Kelly said the Swaggart family has been overwhelmed by the personal messages and stories they’ve received about the lives he touched.
“They’re heartbroken because he’s such a larger-than-life figure, not to the world but also just to them personally,” said Kelly. “He’s played such a big role in their lives, so it is very difficult for them to see and imagine a world that he’s not in.”
Those unable to make the funeral can tune in on SonLife Broadcasting Network. Kelly said the celebration of life will be a combination of Swaggart’s life as a televangelist.
“We’ve got lots of videos, lots of wonderful music and some really heartfelt speaking that’s gonna happen throughout the night,” said Kelly.
