
Governor Landry is sending about 135 Louisiana National Guard soldiers to Washington, D.C. Lieutenant Colonel Noel Collins says the soldiers will be in the nation’s capital for at least a month.
“We’re going to be in support of the D.C. National Guard and the D.C. Metro Police as well as local law enforcement. I don’t have an exact date, but as of now the orders goes through 30 September,” Collins said.
Lieutenant Colonel Collins says the Governor was acting on a request from President Trump to restore order in the nation’s capital.
“We were asked to respond and support the D.C. National Guard, and that’s what the Louisiana National Guard is doing,” Collins said.
Collins says the mission for the National Guard soldiers is to restore safety and peace in the nation’s capital.
“They’re in support of local law enforcement. That would include probably a variety of tasks,” Collins explained.
