According to online Sportsbook, BetOnline, Nick Saban is the favorite to be the next head coach at LSU. His odds are 2-1. Josh Barton with BetOnline says when they first started taking bets on who will be the next head coach at LSU, Saban was a longshot with odds
of 75-1.
“Bettors love to take the long shots, right? They want to bet on the 50-1 horse, the Kentucky Derby, whatever it is. And then they see the Nick Saban name, coming back home, and they jumped at it,” Barton said.
The 74-year-old Saban has said multiple times he does not want to coach again. But Barton says there are a lot of LSU fans hoping Saban returns to Tiger Town and they decided to throw some dollars on it.
“The bettors love to hope and think and say at the water cooler next day, ‘Hey, I bet on Nick Saban to get the LSU job 75-1,'” Barton said.
Barton says BetOnline had to increase the odds that Saban would be the next head coach again at LSU, because there was so much action on the future hall of fame coach.
“I don’t think these are the true odds. I don’t think he really is the favorite. But because of the action we’ve taken on him to be the coach, we have to adjust accordingly,” Barton said.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin at 15-4 is the second favorite, followed by Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who was the co-offensive coordinator at LSU during the 2019 national championship season.
