The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team will host one of its biggest games in program history tomorrow, when the Tigers take on No. 3 South Carolina. LSU hasn’t beaten South Carolina since January of 2012, and head coach Kim Mulkey says she expects the sold-out Pete Maravich Assembly Center to be rocking.
“It’ll be another great SEC atmosphere, SEC game. South Carolina is who they are. They are South Carolina. They’re good. They’re always good. Let’s just see if we can stay in the ballgame with them and have an unbelievable atmosphere. It’s a Mardi Gras. I mean, that’s what we do, right?” Mulkey said.
The matchup will mark the first time junior MiLaysia Fulwiley plays her former team since transferring last April. The top-six showdown will be emotional for Fulwiley, but Mulkey isn’t concerned about it affecting her play.
“When you’re a player, you’re out there trying to do the best you can for the team you play for. I don’t look at it as extra pressure on Lay (MiLaysia Fulwiley). Internally, a competitor wants to do really good against their former team, but she will be fine, except she’s probably internally going to be a little bit excited, have butterflies,” Mulkey explained.
Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
