A political action committee that supports fifth district Republican congressional candidate Rick Edmonds says it’s produced what it claims is the first-ever AI political ad in the state’s history. Lionel Rainey with The Louisiana First Victory Fund says the commercial features four AI-generated characters that are worried about Edmonds’ conservative platform.
“By selling people on the ways that they’re offended by him, it is actually telling you positions where he stands,” Rainey said.
Edmonds is one of four well-known Republicans competing in the May 16th Republican primary election. The other candidates are Board of Regents Chair Misty Cordell, state representative Mike Echols and state senator Blake Miguez.
Rainey says this 100% AI-generated political advertisement is one of only a handful of such ads to run in a congressional race nationwide; and because it’s so unique, it will get the voters’ attention.
“Many times, when you’re doing an advertisement, it doesn’t matter if it’s for a company or if it’s for a candidate, you want people to remember the ad. You want people to remember the message in the ad,” Rainey explained.
Rainey says AI-generated political advertisements on television are the wave of the future, because they can cost less than your traditional commercial, and they can be produced faster.
“This would have taken us a week, just to stage out the acting and the scenes before. We were able to plot this out and get it done in three or four days,” Rainey said.
Rainey says while candidates and political action committees are not allowed to misrepresent their opponent using AI, a regular citizen can, so be aware of that when seeing AI productions on social media.
The ad can be viewed via YouTube, as well as other social media outlets.
