Congresswoman Julia Letlow has agreed to participate in a Republican Senate Primary debate, but incumbent Bill Cassidy does not like the setting.
Letlow said she will participate in a debate on the Moon Griffon radio show on April 28th. Political reporter for the Advocate and Nola.com, Tyler Bridges, said Griffon is an outspoken critic of Cassidy.
“Moon Griffon calls him ‘Psycho Bill,'” Bridges said. “It’s not exactly the best setting for him, but it may be the only setting for him to debate Julia Letlow.”
Cassidy has asked Letlow to participate in three televised debates before the May 16th primary, but the Congresswoman has not agreed to participate in a TV debate. Bridges said debates have become tactical.
“Typically, as a frontrunner, somebody who is really confident of their candidacy, or if they’re afraid to debate, they’ll try and find excuses not to debate,” Bridges said. “Often, as the candidate who has the most to gain, in this case Senator Cassidy, calls for the TV debate.”
In a post on “X,” Letlow said Griffon reaches the heart of Louisiana’s conservative grassroots and that is exactly the audience that should hear this debate. But Cassidy says the debates should be on TV for all of Louisiana to see.
Bridges said it remains to be seen if Cassidy will participate in the April 28th debate on Moon Griffon’s radio show.
“We don’t know yet what Senator Cassidy will do, but maybe the only format that the voters in Louisiana will hear the candidates together,” Bridges said.
The third major candidate in the race, Republican John Fleming, says he will take part in the debate on the Moon Griffon show.
