Governor John Bel Edwards says this Easter holiday will not look like other years. Edwards urges continued social distancing efforts. The Easter holiday does not create an exemption from mitigation efforts of virus spread.
“Because that virus isn’t going to honor that. This is about the virus. The virus is very much in control and that’s why we are trying to do things that will actually limit the impact of the virus,” said Edwards.
Edwards has no issues with crawfish boils for families that live together, but it shouldn’t be turning into a block party or a family reunion.
“You shouldn’t be inviting all your siblings and children and grandparents and in-laws over to a house. We’ve asked that when you have to gather in a group, that the group be no more than ten people, but we are asking you not to get into a group of ten people if you can avoid it,” said Edwards.
Despite the lack of traditional holiday gatherings, Edwards recommends finding a meaningful and significant way to worship and celebrate.
“We shouldn’t do it in groups of people that violate what we’ve been talking about. There was no Easter exemption from the stay at home order. There was no Easter exemptions from the ten-person limit,” said Edwards.
