Governor John Bel Edwards’ re-election campaign has released a couple of new digitals ads with the message being the state is better off now compared to how it was when he took office. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat said it’s an absolute must for Edwards to start campaigning now, before opposing campaigns begin to target him.
“The governor’s doing what he should be doing, which is getting out ahead of the critics that are going to start attacking is lack of accomplishments, his breaking his promise not to raise taxes,” said Pinsonat.
Pinsonat expects return fire from GOP candidates, Ralph Abraham and Eddie Rispone, highlighting the shortcomings of Edwards first term.
“It’s going to be in very negative terms, so the governor has no choice but to start defending his record and promoting his record of accomplishments.
Pinsonat said the digital ads are just the tip of the iceberg in advertising for the October primary.
“The governor’s going to be out doing more of this, and the Republicans are going to be doing just as much on the negative side, talking about his record in a negative tone,” said Pinsonat.
