Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins officially qualifies to challenge Senator Bill Cassidy. Perkins, a Democrat says his decision to run rose from the concerns he has about how Congress is handling the coronavirus pandemic and this moment calls for strong, decisive leadership in DC.
“As Louisianians, we know what it is like to be neglected in a time of crisis. With COVID ravaging our communities, public health, and economies, we cannot afford for that to happen again,” said Perkins.
Perkins says DC is moving too slow in helping families and cites legislation sent from the House to the Senate over two months ago that would have provided much-needed relief to working families.
“I wish that the Senate had the same sense of urgency that those families that are worried about how they’re going to feed their children tomorrow or in the upcoming weeks, that they have,” said Perkins.
Perkins was asked where he stands on abortion.
“I think that a woman should consult her God, her family, and a healthcare professional when making that particular decision, but we can’t just think about being pro-choice or pro-life within that snapshot,” said Perkins.
