Louisiana has surpassed 100,000 coronavirus cases, becoming the 12th state to do so and the smallest state to reach the grim milestone.
“When you hit certain milestones like you hit with going over 100,000 cases and the deaths and so forth, I just do hope that people are taking that very seriously and that it serves as a reality check and we are in fact in a public health emergency,” said Governor John Bel Edwards.
There are some who suggest Louisiana is double-counting cases for people who test positive multiple times. Edwards says that’s not happening and called it a disinformation campaign aimed at minimizing the seriousness of the situation.
“We have some people out there who are being irresponsible and I am asking them to stop but nobody should be paying attention to what those individuals are saying,” said Edwards.
Edwards has signed the executive order that extends the statewide mask mandate, keeps bars closed and also keeps the state in Phase 2 of reopening through August 7th.
“If you want as many businesses open as possible with as few restrictions as possible if you want as many employees back at work as possible that day will come sooner if we all do our part,” said Edwards.
