In an effort to stop runaway youth COVID transmission the governor’s office releases a PSA featuring half a dozen young people talking about they suffered from COVID-19.
The PSA begins with the young folks talking about how it felt to actually contract the disease, with those featured mentioning fevers, chills, body aches, congestion, sinus pain, chest pain, and a loss of taste and smell.
18 to 29-year-olds have the highest number of infections of any age group recorded by the Louisiana Department of Health at 24,000, 6,000 higher than the next highest age group.
Those in the video discussed some of the misconceptions about how youth are allegedly “unaffected” by the virus, with them countering that narrative by explaining what happened to them, and how it could be even worse if they were to transfer the virus to their parents.
The recent wave of cases has been driven by community spread amongst young adults, compared to the first wave which had a much higher percentage of cases coming from congregate settings of older people.
The PSA ends with the young folks imploring their friends to mask up.
