State Police announce a black man shot by police in Lafayette Friday night has died from his injuries. State Police Trooper Derek Senegal says Lafayette police officers responded to a disturbance involving a person armed with a knife at a gas station and the subject then walked to another gas station with officers right behind him.
“A foot pursuit ensued and it ended a the Shell gas station where the subject was shot,” said Senegal.
The man shot has been identified as 31-year-old Trayford Pellerin and he died at a local hospital. Senegal says officers deployed Tasers as they pursued Pellerin, but they were ineffective. He says officers discharged their weapons when Pellerin attempted to enter an occupied convenience store.
A bystander caught the episode on video and you can hear officers fire multiple shots.
