The fuel situation in hurricane-ravaged Vernon Parish is getting tight.
Vernon Sheriff Sam Craft says power is out across the parish and many residents who are staying behind have to drive all the way to Alexandria for fuel and supplies.
“Our people can drive to Many, I’m in Pitkin right now and a lot of these people are going to Ville Platte for all of their fuel, bread, milk,” says Craft.
Craft says people are seeing long lines at the few locations in operation.
“We have two locations in Leesville that are selling fuel, they are both, lines backed up. One location east of town, a location west of Anacoco, but that is it for our fuel locations,” says Craft.
At the fueling stations that are operational residents are seeing very long lines and shortages. Craft says despite those pressures people are staying non-violent.
“There’s been a time or two that there’s been a little bit of an argumentative situation, but no fistic encounters,” says Crafts.
