The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will begin accepting applications on Monday from fishermen and others in the industry who have been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. LDWF Biologist Director Jason Duet says there are 14.6 million dollars in federal money available for aid
“It will be an online application only and to view the program guideline and to apply you can go to the LDWF website at www.wlf.louisiana.gov.” said Duet.
Duet says a person is eligible for up to $10,000 in aid.
“Louisiana has chosen to address the economic losses through direct assistance payments to eligible applicants who can show at least a 35 percent economic loss,” said Duet.
Duet says you must be at least 18 years old and live in Louisiana or have your business domiciled in Louisiana. You must be able to demonstrate you were in the industry as of 2018 or 2019 as a “Fishery Participant”. This includes tribes, persons, fishing communities, aquaculture businesses, processors, or other fisheries-related businesses
Applications will be accepted until October 26th.
