Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley
State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley said the state moving into Phase Three likely means more in-person education for K-12 students.
Brumley said one of the biggest differences in Phase Three is relaxed school bus capacity limits.
“Being able to have school buses run at 75 percent occupancy instead of 50 certainly will provide an opportunity for more kids to be on campus,” said Brumley.
Brumley said classrooms can also open up, and some beloved extracurricular can resume as well.
“Group sizes move to 50, and they were in Phase Two only 25. In Phase Three we have the ability to have choir, vocal music, and band,” said Brumley.
The Superintendent warned the transition to more in-person education won’t happen overnight, and will likely take some time to implement.
Brumley said the state’s transition to Phase Three is proof schools were able to safely educate under Phase Two. He says that’s the result of high compliance, and occasionally tough decisions.
“We have had occasions where we have had to quarantine a class, or groups of students, or groups of faculty members, and even a school for a certain period of time,” said Brumley.
