The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the death of a 19-year-old south Louisiana man who was fatally shot Sunday night when a bullet entered his mother’s home in Lockport. Jyairus Folse of Lockport was charged with the Second Degree Murder of Alton Adams of Bayou Blue. Lt. Brennan Matherne said the suspect hasn’t disclosed to investigators a reason for the shooting.
“Whether he chose the residence at random or not is still a question for us to figure out. Ultimately, we are looking for the possibilities of motives in this situation,” said Matherne.
Matherne said Folse has also been charged with six counts of attempted second-degree murder for each person in the home.
“Based on our investigation, we believe that he knew there was a large number of people inside the trailer,” said Matherne.
Matherne said the investigation shows that Adams was shot in the back.
“He was shot in the back because he was covering one of his younger siblings in the incident when the shooting began. Unfortunately, our hero in this situation died tragically in the shooting,” said Matherne.
Bond has been set at $5 million.
