Beginning this fall, Louisiana will become only the second state in the US with military veteran centers on every college campus. Chancellor of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Monty Sullivan said the resource centers are put in place to help vets in transitioning into the campus lifestyle.
“There will be thirty total. Thirteen of those within the Louisiana Community and Technical College System and we’re just excited to have the resource available,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan said the number of veterans enrolled in colleges across the state has significantly increased in recent years.
“Within the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, we had just over 6000 veterans and dependents this past year, which is a significant number. We had right at 1400 of those graduate this past year,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan said the centers will be staffed with someone dedicated to working with them. It also helps veterans interact with other veterans on campus.
“Veterans often times will help one another acclimate back to the college environment,” said Sullivan.
