Governor John Bel Edwards says Louisiana is in the third surge of the pandemic, but he doesn’t plan on implementing a stay-at-home order. However, he says new restrictions are possible.
“We are looking at all of the data, we are looking at what other states are doing, we are looking at what is being recommended by the White House Coronavirus Task Force and so forth,” said Edwards.
The White House Coronavirus Task Force is calling on Louisiana to increase its mitigation efforts as the state is seeing a rise in test positivity, the number of new cases and hospitalizations. Edwards says if everyone followed the rules in the current Phase 3 order, the state’s COVID-19 situation would improve.
“And I’m not fussing at everybody, I don’t like to be thought of fussing period, but the mitigation efforts being put forth by the people of Louisiana are inadequate,” said Edwards.
Over the last three weeks, the parishes with the highest number of new cases over the last three weeks are Caddo, Ouachita, and East Baton Rouge.
COVID-19 hospitalizations have been increasing statewide. It’s up to 929, an increase of 253 from a week ago.
