It was a rough night for LSU’s offense in 20-7 loss to Texas A-and-M on Saturday night. The Tigers rushed for just 36 yards and starting quarterback TJ Finley had another bad game on the road, throwing for 118 yards and two interceptions. Coach Ed Orgeron says the offensive line didn’t give Finley much help.
“We had some guys free hitting the quarterback, we were getting beat off the edge, we just have to look at the protection, I think everytime you are going to throw the football it starts with protection first, obviously we got to let a lot of guys out, maybe we should have kept more guys in, they had a good plan for our protections, and we didn’t adjust to it as well as we should have,” said a disappointed Coach Ed Orgeron.
After Finley threw a pick six, Max Johnson played a little better and threw for 113 yards and one touchdown. Orgeron said numerous times in the post-game that the Tigers need a better plan.
“I think we gotta call better plays, I think we have to have a better plan, I was really disappointed with our plan and disappointed our execution,” said Orgeron. “Look at hard Terrace Marshall played, look at the catches he made, we have to use these players better, we gotta have a better plan.”
Marshall had 10 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown.
LSU’s also defense played well. They gave up a 52-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Spiller, but senior QB Kellen Mond was just 11-of-34 for 105 yards. Linebacker Micah Baskerville led the way with 12 tackles. He says the team plans to stick together.
“So we are staying together, we have a positive thoughts, getting better, the thought going in keep getting better, couple of plays away from winning the game, so we are just going to keep pushing, getting better,” said Baskerville.
Up next for LSU, it’s number one ranked Alabama who had an easy time beating Auburn in the Iron Bowl, without Nick Saban, who was at home in isolation, after recovering from COVID-19. Kick-off on Saturday at 7 PM.
