Gov. Edwards is participating in a statewide business summit today that is meant to highlight the state’s economic development success stories. The event will connect business leaders with administration officials in different areas of government. Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson said the summit will go over many of the key elements impacting business.
“How we see a pathway forward that continues this strong economic development momentum and the strong economy we have in our state today,” said Pierson.
Pierson said the event will feature panel discussions from public and private sector leaders and will address the support elements of the economy.
“The infrastructure, whose investing in our future in Louisiana, our port systems, things that are happening with our highways, the new airport terminal in New Orleans,” said Pierson.
The Republican Party of Louisiana has taken issue with the event, saying it’s a taxpayer-funded campaign event for Edwards’ re-election campaign. Pierson said that’s not true, saying the event is being underwritten by corporate sponsors and the Governor’s participation just comes with his job.
“It’s clearly the way this Governor executes his responsibilities and that’s in having the dialogue and transparency to work with business and lead business,” said Pierson.
