Louisiana State Police say they are aware of planned protests at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge as pro-Trump crowds are expected to gather at state capitol buildings across the nation. Lt. Nick Manale says they are in communication with their law enforcement partners.
“As with any previous protest across the state, State Police is continually monitoring for potential security concerns and we are providing that information to our public safety personnel to ensure the safety protesters, capitol grounds and staff,” said Manale.
The FBI reportedly issued a bulletin that armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20th. Manale says they will have additional security measures in place.
“We are going to work closely with the capitol staff, our department of public safety police and all of our local partners to make sure that we have a safe environment for our citizens and also to protect the rights of our citizens to hold a peaceful gathering,” said Manale.
Over the last several weekends, Trump supporters have gathered on the steps of the Louisiana Capitol and they’ve held peaceful demonstrations. But the crowd is expected to be much bigger this Sunday.
