LSU has hired Minnesota Vikings Defensive Backs coach Daronte Jones as the team’s new defensive coordinator. Head coach Ed Orgeron joined Off The Bench with T-Bob Hebert on ESPN 104.5 in Baton Rouge and he came away impressed after they met.
“Daronte interviewed yesterday and did a very good job, very impressive, knows the same defense that I’m used to, same coverages, same fronts.”
Even though former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda is now the head coach at Baylor, Orgeron still keeps in contact with him and says he’s the one who recommended Jones.
“I trust Dave and I called him and asked him about top defensive coordinators in the country and he and I went down the list, and if we do get him I think he’ll do an outstanding job for us.”
LSU still has a couple of openings on its coaching staff. But Orgeron plans to have the entire defensive staff completed very soon.
“We want an outstanding linebacker coach, we have a linebacker coach coming in today for an interview, we have a defensive line coach coming in tomorrow for an interview and if everything goes good we’ll have our staff pretty soon.”
