While Hurricanes Laura and Delta devastated southwest Louisiana, residents affected by Hurricane Zeta can also apply for Federal Disaster Assistance. Homeowners and renters in southeast Louisiana should apply for assistance as soon as possible. FEMA spokesperson Melissa Wilkins explains what is eligible.
“Rental assistance, lodging reimbursement, moving fees, even home repairs to things like a roof, or a window that might have been blown out or plumbing systems. And that deadline is going to be through March 15th,” said Wilkins.
Wilkins said some might not be aware that FEMA assistance is also available for Zeta and they want those who need assistance to register with disasterassistance.gov.
“So far we have registered just close to 7,400 households and we want to make sure that everyone knows that this assistance is available if they need any help,” said Wilkins.
FEMA also recognizes that multiple hurricanes and the pandemic have also been taxing mentally on residents of Louisiana. Wilkins says FEMA is offering a free crisis counseling line that’s available 24/7.
“Anyone in Louisiana can call and they will be automatically connected with a counselor who can help. They do not have to give their name and it is completely confidential,” said Wilkins.
