Police are seeking a 1st Degree Murder charge against a man they say murdered and robbed a 29-year-old New Orleanian at a meetup to sell a 2,800 dollar dirt bike.
JP Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the victim, Joseph Vindel, met the alleged shooter Jalen Harvey in Harvey Sunday around noon, shot Vindel multiple times while he was still in his truck, drove the truck to New Orleans, left it and Vindel’s body in the Garden District, then drove back to his apartment on the stolen dirt bike.
Lopinto said deputies were able to track down Harvey after they got into Vindel’s marketplace app and read the messages. Jefferson Parish Deputies then said they discovered Vindel’s dirt bike outside of Harvey’s apartment, arrested Harvey, and claim Harvey confessed to the killing. Vindel’s body was discovered Monday morning.
Lopinto said since the start of last year they’ve seen two armed robberies, one simple robbery, two thefts, and now a homicide connected with these marketplace sales.
“Look, if it doesn’t feel right, get out,” said Lopinto. “You can choose your location of where you are going to be and if they are not showing up there for whatever reason there’s someone else you can sell it to,” said Loptino.
