Former LSU leader F- King Alexander is out as president at Oregon State after submitting his resignation. Alexander faces criticism for his role in the systemwide failure at LSU on how they handled previous sexual misconduct allegations. OSU Board Chairwoman Rani Borkar hoped they could rebuild their trust with Alexander, but…
“We now know that rebuilding trust is no longer possible,” said Borkar.
Last week the OSU board placed Alexander on probation, but the university’s Faculty Senate called for his resignation and Borkar says they also heard from other groups.
“This broken trust was expressed not only by the word of Faculty Senate, but outpouring heartfelt statements from students, alumni and survivors of sexual assault,” said Borkar.
Alexander served as LSU’s president from 2013 to 2019. He took over as OSU’s president last year.
A Husch Blackwell investigation found multiple occasions where LSU failed in past years to act properly when an accusation of sexual misconduct was made. Alexander denied any wrongdoing.
Borkar says they planned to discuss Alexander’s future with the university Tuesday, but they heard from Alexander over the weekend.
“On Sunday, President Alexander offered his resignation, effective April 1st,” said Borker.
The Oregon State board accepted his resignation and Alexander will receive a $670,000 severance package.
