Louisiana REALTORS is urging state landlords to take advantage of the 300 million dollars in federal rental assistance aid that was made available through the American Rescue Act.
CEO Norman Morris said the US Treasury’s Emergency Relief Assistance Program allows landlords and their tenants to work together to apply for the aid.
“Once they are approved they will be able to pay their landlord going back to April 2020 and going forward with their rent in three-month increments,” said Morris.
There’s been a CDC eviction moratorium in place since the start of the pandemic, and it’s been extended into the summer. Morris said small businesses have suffered big losses.
“Approximately 40 percent of the property owners in Louisiana are mom and pop operations, very small businesses, and many of those have not been paid their rents due to the COVID-19 issues by their tenants,” said Morris.
Morris said tenants or landlords who would like to participate and get their federal aid should visit lastaterent.com.
“We are encouraging again landlords and tenants to work together to be able to help both sides of the equation, both the property owners and the tenants,” said Morris who added you can also call 877-459-6555 during regular weekday hours.
