If you never received your BP oil spill settlement, the Louisiana Treasury might be holding your check. State Treasurer John Schroder said their Unclaimed Property division is holding more than $700,000 in settlement claims. Schroder said they usually receive property because the rightful owner’s address is incorrect.
“Especially if you applied for BP money and you didn’t get it and you were approved. There’s a possibility that we could be holding that check,” said Schroder.
Amounts of individual claims from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Trust range from as much as $68-thousand and as little eight-cents. Schroder encourages everyone to check their website.
“One gentleman had almost $65,000 in St. Bernard,” said Schroder.
Schroder said they are trying to get the word out so rightful owners can receive their settlement check.
“We got almost a million dollars in and we’ve only given out $165,000,” said Schroder.
