Louisiana is expecting 300,000 COVID vaccine doses next week, which almost doubles the number of doses the state is currently receiving. Governor John Bel Edwards says the vaccine ramp-up has arrived and encourages everyone 16 and older to get the vaccine.
“We are going to have more doses than we have had at any point up until now and it will be within our ability to make tremendous progress against this pandemic,” said Edwards.
To help connect Louisianans to this deluge of vaccines next week the state will establish a vaccine hotline. Edwards called it a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking a vaccine appointment.
“It will help navigate the larger system of vaccine providers and locations and connect residents to a medical professional for any questions that they might want to ask about the vaccines,” said Edwards.
The phone number and hours of operation will be made public soon.
Everyone aged 16 and older is now eligible to receive a vaccine.
Edwards said one of the best parts about the vaccine hotline is that it won’t cost the state any extra money because existing contact tracers will be cross-trained to operate the hotline.
1.2 million Louisianans have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine and 1.8 million total doses have been administered.
