Roland Greene
At a Tuesday press conference Governor Edwards said video of the Ronald Greene arrest shows State Police troopers acting unprofessionally and reiterated that he found the video “disturbing”.
Edwards first saw the footage last October while viewing it with the Greene family. At the time he had few comments other than calling it “disturbing”.
“I always said that after the first time I watched the video I found it disturbing. I would not have been disturbed had I thought it was professional or that I thought that those officers had performed as they should,” said Edwards. “It is regrettable, and it is unfortunate, and obviously we have implemented a number of changes with the goal towards making sure that this does not happen again.”
Edwards said the footage is being reviewed by the Union Parish DA and the US Department of Justice for a reason.
“They don’t represent what we aspire to in the State of Louisiana at the Louisiana State Police especially once Mr. Greene was not just in custody but was restrained,” said Edwards.
Greene died in police custody in 2019 after being severely beaten and tased by State Police troopers following a car chase in Union Parish. Immediately after Greene’s death the first report to come out of State Police claimed Greene died in the car crash following the chase.
