A Baton Rouge nurse began a door-to-door campaign earlier this year to educate and vaccinate people for COVID. Carla Brown lost her husband to COVID after she exposed him to the virus, a man who survived a gunshot wound to the head as a child and cancer twice, only to succumb to the virus.
“Through my grief and guilt, I was able to reach down deep in my soul of my faith and I pledged to David that I would do my best not let his death be in vain,” said Brown.
Brown along with the assistance of Baton Rouge pharmacy has vaccinated just shy of a thousand residents. Her goal is to reach two thousand by the 4th of July.
“And we will come to wherever the call is. We will go to your job, your home, wherever you are, so there’s no excuse that the vaccine is not available,” said Brown.
When Brown’s husband contracted COVID he ended up at the hospital and due to visiting restrictions, died alone. Brown is now a Hospice Nurse in an effort to comfort patients in their last moments, something she could not do for her husband.
“We’re not out of this pandemic. We still need you to save your inner circle, save you’re loved one’s lives,” said Brown.
