Motorists continue to feel the pinch at the pump with the national average for regular gas at $3.14 gallon. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman said in the Bayou State the average price is just below $2.80 a gallon but it might not stay there long.
“It’s very possible that we’re going to be seeing average prices for gasoline in Louisiana about $2.90, $2.95 a gallon,” said Redman.
Redman said he doesn’t expect the state to see prices in the $3.00 range, but a lot depends on if the industry is able to keep up with demand.
“As well as what’s going on with the oil prices, we’re talking about later this month at $80 a barrel which certainly is really pushing those prices upwards,” said Redman.
As for the remainder of the summer, Redman said you might want to start budgeting for gas in the $2.90-range and he suggests if you have the ability to use a more fuel-efficient vehicle you might want to consider that.
“It’s a far cry from where we were just a year ago at $1.85, but we’re looking at prices we haven’t seen since 2014,” said Redman.
Redman said California is seeing prices in the $4.30 a gallon range and other western states paying more than $3.50 a gallon.
