Caddo Parish Sheriffs made arrests Tuesday in two separate incidents where students threatened school shootings on social media.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Cindy Chadwick said one of those arrested was 18-year-old Raybon Marter of who threatened to do a school shooting at Southwood High School on Snapchat.
“We went to his classroom and got him out of class Tuesday morning, and we interviewed him at the detectives’ office,” said Chadwick. “He told us it was a joke and we did not find any weapons on his person however he was arrested.”
Marter was charged with terrorizing.
In another, unrelated event, a 15-year-old posted a picture of himself on Instagram putting a gun in his backpack, and a separate picture of himself walking to the Woodlawn Leadership Academy campus.
“That was seen by school officials and they intercepted him when he got to Woodlawn Tuesday morning,” said Chadwick. “A search was done of his backpack and they did find a loaded 9mm in his backpack with an extended magazine.”
The teen was arrested for having a gun on campus and terrorizing.
Chadwick said these days it’s not just the public who is reporting school shooting threats from social media, it’s the social media companies themselves.
“Which is what happened I believe in one of these cases, it was reported to the FBI as well as State Police then to the Sheriff’s Office to further investigate,” said Chadwick.
