Suspect Jake Guidry
26-year-old Jake Guidry of Thibodaux faces second-degree murder charges in the death of his infant daughter. After a welfare check early Tuesday morning, at the request of the child’s mother, that’s when Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Lt. Brennan Matherne said they made the grim discovery.
“Ultimately when deputies arrived, they made contact with the child’s father who had told deputies that the child was deceased, that he had struck her too hard and the child had died,” said Matherne.
The body of 11-month-old Zabria Guidry was found in the rear cargo area of Guidry’s car. Matherne said it’s not certain what the father had planned after he placed the infant in his SUV.
“It’s unclear that this time what his intentions were, we do know that the child was placed in the SUV sometime probably that afternoon, we’re estimating around 3 PM,” said Matherne.
Initially, Matherne said Guidry did not cooperate when he was questioned about the child’s whereabouts but when they arrived at his residence in the 600 block of Brule Guillot Road, Guidry did tell them what happened.
“But when deputies responded to the scene, he did tell deputies that he’d struck the child too hard, and the child had died. Deputies did find evidence of that and ultimately that led to Guidry’s arrest.
They believe the infant’s body had been the vehicle for approximately ten hours. Guidry was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional center. Bond is set at one million.
