A Baton Rouge Democrat says he’ll seek to deny Republican U.S. Senator John Kennedy a second term in office come next year.
The challenger is 42-year-old Luke Mixon, a former Navy pilot who flies commercial planes has never held political office before. The Avoyelles Parish native and Bunkie High grad blames Kennedy in part for the state’s crumbling infrastructure and the lack of federal dollars to battle natural disasters in Louisiana.
Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat doesn’t see much of a battle brewing between the popular Kennedy and Mixon, a virtual unknown in political circles.
“People that are already well known or already state elected officials understand that beating Kennedy would be a herculean task,” according to Pinsonat.
Mixon says he’s already assembled a core team of political operatives who worked closely with the likes of Governor John Bel Edwards and former Senator Mary Landrieu.
Pinsonat doesn’t believe Kennedy will face any major opposition in the 2022 election.
