A week after Lafayette’s Police Chief Thomas Glover was fired, he called in on Mayor Josh Guillory’s weekly radio show on KPEL accusing the mayor of firing him without cause. Glover said he’s been told Guillory is now questioning people in the department and community looking for a reason to say he was terminated.
“I’m in an undisclosed location I’m working on my retort to all of this and it’s going to be devastating to the Mayor-President to do what he did for me, and I will, I will, I will get justice,” said Glover.
When asked to respond on the Thursday call-in show, Guillory stated that everyone, even former employees, has the right to go to the media and say whatever they want.
“As a Mayor-President, I don’t always have that luxury, it’s not responsible for me to do that, those conversations as far as previous employment, personnel file, it really is a personnel matter,” said Guillory.
A reason has never been given as to Glover’s firing and Guillory only refers to it as a personnel matter. Glover however said he, along with the community, deserves an explanation.
“And so, I’m very disappointed there’s got to be a way for the Mayor-President to explain to the community and to me why was I terminated without any reason,” said Glover.
Wayne Griffin, a SWAT Commander with the department for 19 years, has been named interim chief. Glover was hired last December after a year-long search for a permanent replacement to head the department.
Instead of answering Glover’s questions, Guillory wanted to sing the praises of interim Chief Griffin and tout his loyalty to the city.
“Growing a family, just like Chief Griffin here in Lafayette, coming to love the people of Lafayette, the group that I will never count short is the people of Lafayette,” said Guillory.
Glover was fired from the department on October 7th.
