Once again the Fighting Tigers had a double digit lead in the 2nd half and once again the game came down to the wire, but a circus shot by Tremont Waters near the rim with one second left kept LSU’s season alive with 69-67 victory over the Maryland Terrapins. The Tigers are in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006. That team reached the Final Four.
Skylar Mays led LSU with 16 points and hit a big three-pointer in the final minute. Mays was 4-of-8 from three-point territory and as a team the Tigers didn’t shoot the ball well from three-point territory 7-of-24.
Naz Reid had 13 points and four rebounds, while Waters finished with 12 points.
Another good day at the free throw line as they were 14-of-16 from the line.
LSU will now play the winner of Michigan State-Minnesota game on Saturday night.
